About Freshwater Pearls. Pearls originate from two sources: freshwater cultured pearls are grown in lakes and rivers, whereas saltwater cultured pearls are grown in bodies of saltwater such as bays. In the 1990’s the quality and availability of freshwater pearls dramatically improved and they’re the pearl of choice in my work. Except for the most flawless and rarest of cultured pearls, you will see variations and slight inclusions in the surface nacre of freshwater pearls. These variations are the consequence of nature’s process and lend to the charm not found in synthetic man-made pearls. All pearls are measured in millimeters by diameter if round, and by length if off-round.Copyright © 2006-2008 Dee Sharp Jewelry Designs. All rights reserved.Website by Video and Computer |
